It is Monday morning now. I am on my way to school. The streets of the
city are very busy. Hundreds of cars and buses are carrying people to work. They
are carrying workers and engineers carpenters and plumbers to their plants,
factories and building sites. They are carrying managers and bookkeepers,
lawyers and architects, computer experts and designers to their offices and
firms.
An ambulance is taking a boy to hospital.
A street cleaner is cleaning the street. A policeman is talking to a
young man. He is a student. He studies at a University in the morning and in
the evening he works as a waiter in a cafe. A shopkeeper is opening the shop.
The woman with the brown bag is coming in. She is a housewife. She works
at home. She cooks food, washes the dishes, cleans the house and does the
shopping.
And this man in a blue cap is a reporter. He works in an office. He
writes stories for “ Daily News “. He is going to meet some people
and to write about them.
Look at the woman. She is taking a bus at a bus stop. She is a teacher.
She works in our school. She teaches children. She doesn’t live far from
school. Sometimes she goes there on foot.
As for me, I am going to be a lawyer because it is my family tradition.

New Year New Year New Year
New Year is a special holiday for
people. We celebrate New Year on the 31 of December. People are busy. They send
greeting cards to their relatives and friends. They go shopping to buy presents.
We usually put presents under the tree. On the eve of the New Year we decorate
a fir tree with toys, coloured balls, sweets and little coloured lights. We
usually have a New Year party at home, cook tasty food and invite our relatives
and friends to come.
I want to tell you about our New
Year party. My parents were at home on that day. Mummy was busy in the kitchen
and Granny helped her. Dad brought home a beautiful New Year tree and we
decorated it. At ten o’clock we sat down at the holiday table and had a big
meal. We ate tasty food, played funny games, sang songs, danced and watched TV.
At twelve o’clock we said “Happy New Year “and looked under the tree. We saw nice
presents there: a computer game for me, a nice dress for Mummy, a new sweater
for my Dad and a book for my Granny. My record book with only good marks was
the best present for my parents and I also drew beautiful pictures for them. We
were very happy and had a good time. I think New Year is a magic holiday

SEASONS SEASONS SEASONS
There are four seasons in a year. They are winter, spring, summer and
autumn. In different seasons people wear different clothes.
Winter months are December, January and February. The weather is cold
and windy in winter. There is a lot of snow everywhere. Winter is the coldest
season of the year but children like winter. They are fond of skating, skiing,
playing snowballs, sledging or making snowmen. People wear warm hats and
jackets, fur coats, thick boots, scarves and mittens.
Spring lasts three months: March, April and May. It’s warm.
New leaves grow on trees. Children like to play different games
outdoors. They usually wear jackets, jeans and trainers. In May schoolchildren
have their school parties. They put on their beautiful clothes and look nice.
Summer is the hottest season. It lasts three months: June, July and
August.The weather is sunny and bright. Flowers grow and trees are
green.Schoolchildren have the longest holidays in summer.On hot days boys wear
T- shirts and shorts. Girls can put on blouses and skirts or bright dresses.
There are three autumn months: September, October and November. The
weather is cloudy, rainy, wet and foggy. People wear raincoats and gloves and
take umbrellas.
Nature is beautiful in autumn. Leaves turn red, brown, orange and
yellow. They fall down. Autumn is a dull season but it is a “delicious” season
because there are a lot of fruit and vegetables in autumn: apples and pears,
potatoes and cucumbers, berries and mushrooms.
In September school begins and schoolchildren put on their school
uniforms.

On Holidays
Pupils in Russia have holidays in autumn, winter, spring and summer.
Autumn and spring holidays are short. We have autumn holidays in November and
spring holidays in March. We usually go to the theatre, to the cinema, to the
zoo, to the circus or to different museums.
I like to visit the circus very much. It is fun to watch animals and
their tricks. Clowns can juggle and always make people laugh.
Winter holidays are in January, they are longer than autumn holidays.
During the winter holidays we go to the New Year parties. We ski and skate,
sledge, play snowballs or make snowmen with our friends.
But most of all children like summer holidays. They are the longest
holidays. We have them in June, July and August. Children and their parents
like to travel in summer by car, by train, by sea, by plane or on foot.
They spend their time in the country, in the mountains or at
camps.
It is nice to have a trip to the seaside. You can swim a lot, catch
crabs, make sandcastles on the beach or collect seashells. Of course, you can
enjoy different kinds of ice cream in hot weather.
Summer is the best season for travelling. When people travel, they enjoy
the beauty of nature. It is nice to spend some weeks out of a noisy city. Children
spend a lot of time outdoors. They play funny games or do sports, eat fruit and
vegetables, visit nice places and learn a lot of interesting things. Travelling
does people a lot of good.
Summer months go very quickly, we become strong and healthy, learn a lot
of things about people and nature.

There are many animals on the Earth. They can be domestic and wild.
Wild animals snakes, camels, hippos, crocodiles, 1…, monkeys,
foxes, wolves, tigers, lions, zebras, and some others live in the forest,
deserts, mountains or rivers. 2…and whales live in the sea. Most wild animals are
hunters and hunt 3…animals for food.
Domestic animals are horses, goats, 4…, rabbits, cows, ducks, chickens, cats, dogs and some
others. They live on the farms or in our flats.
The animals on the farm help people. We look after them and they work for
us. These animals give milk, eggs or meat and wool. They carry heavy things or
people and carts.
The animals, which live in the flats, are our pets. People usually keep
cats, dogs, hamsters or guinea pigs and 5…as pets. Sometimes they keep tortoises.
When you have a pet you must look after it well: give it the right 6…and some water
in time, take it for a walk. You can also teach your pet to do different
things.
Dogs and cats usually answer to their names. You can 7…your cat or dog
and play with it. Parrots are nice pets because their feathers are beautiful
and you can teach them to talk. Hamsters, guinea pigs and tortoises are
friendly but they are not very interesting pets because they sleep a lot.

The Earth
We live on the Earth. It’s like a big colourful ball. There are seven
continents on the Earth. They are: Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South
America. Australia and Antarctic.
There is a lot of water on the earth. Some water is in rivers and lakes. It’s fresh. In seas and oceans the water is
salty.There are four oceans on the earth. They are: the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, the Indian Ocean.
There are a lot of different countries on the earth. The earth is so big
that when it is day in one country it’s night in another country. When the sun
shines it’s day when the sun doesn’t shine it’s night. You can see the moon and
the stars in the sky at night.
In different countries people speak different languages. In France they
speak French. In China they speak Chinese. In England, Australia and America
they speak English. In Egypt they speak Arabic. In Russia they speak Russian.
We live in Russia; it’s one of the largest countries in the world. There
are a lot of long rivers, beautiful lakes, large forests, fields and high
mountains in our country.
We live in Ekaterinburg. It’s in
the Urals. Our city stands on the banks of the river Iset. It’s a large and
beautiful city. There are a lot of museums, theatres, libraries, parks, fun
fairs and cinemas in it. I
love the place where I live very much.
